How to create a firm, invite members, manage roles, and track firm usage.

3 min read

Firms let you organize your team, share credits, and track usage across all members. Firms are optional — you can use Exlitem as an individual attorney without one.

#Creating a Firm

  1. Go to Dashboard → Firm
  2. Click Create Firm
  3. Enter your firm details:
    • Firm Name (required)
    • Website (optional)
  4. Click Create

You automatically become the firm's first Admin.

#Firm Overview

Once your firm is created, the Firm page shows:

#Summary Cards

Four cards at the top provide key firm metrics:

CardDescription
Firm NameYour firm's name
Credit BalanceTotal credits available to all firm members
MembersNumber of people in the firm
Your RoleYour role in the firm (Admin or Member)

#Team Members

The team section shows all firm members in a table (desktop) or card view (mobile):

ColumnDescription
NameMember's full name, with "You" indicator for your own row
EmailMember's email address
RoleAdmin or Member badge
JoinedDate the member joined the firm
ActionsManage options (Admin only)

#Inviting Members

Only firm Admins can invite new members:

  1. Click Invite Member in the firm header
  2. Enter the member's email address
  3. Click Send Invitation

The invitee must have an existing Exlitem account to join. They'll receive an email invitation to accept.

Note: Invited members join as Members by default. You can promote them to Admin after they join.

#Managing Roles

Firms have two roles:

RolePermissions
AdminInvite members, promote/demote roles, remove members, view all firm data
MemberUse shared firm credits, view firm member list

#Promoting or Demoting

As an Admin, click the actions menu on any member row to:

  • Promote to Admin — give a Member admin privileges
  • Demote to Member — remove admin privileges from an Admin

#Removing Members

Click Remove on a member's row and confirm the action. Removed members lose access to firm credits but retain their individual account.

#Shared Credits

When you're part of a firm, all credits are pooled:

  • Any firm member can spend credits to unlock expert profiles
  • Credit purchases by any member add to the firm balance
  • See Credits & Unlocks for details on purchasing

#Firm Usage

Track how credits are being used across your firm. The firm dashboard shows usage by member, making it easy to understand spending patterns and plan future credit purchases.
